The story begins with Sidney Dunbavin Hollingsworth and the 1933 sales where his trainer Joe Lawson purchased Felsetta. This was the first racehorse he had bought, and as an owner he went on to have early success in the 1936 Irish Derby with Raeburn, and then Felsetta herself won the Liverpool Autumn Foal Stakes. Her last race was the Atlanta Stakes at Sandown Park. Her breeding career was sadly interrupted by the Second World War.

Sidney Holrlingsworth then bought Arches Hall, which was an agricultural property in the rolling hills close to the river Rib, by the A10 North of Ware near the village of Standon, for his son John. But John died at the age of 27 from an illness contracted during the war. A couple of years later Sidney died leaving Arches Hall to Richard.

The two mares inherited by Richard Hollingsworth were Bardia 1939 by Colombo, and Felucca 1943 by Felstead, Felsettas only winning offspring from five foals. There were also shares in the best Newmarket stallions. The Bardia line became successful away from Arches Hall.
